la la la.....

RE: this previous post, I did indeed order the blue floral version.

(don't even know what to say about the quality of that pic...yuckus)
I might even like it more than the plaid I originally bought! This is the perfect dress, for serious. In other news, the other 2 pieces I bought to supplement my free shipping.....either a) I'm gaining the freshman 15 in grad school rather than undergrad (makes sense; my metabolism ain't what she used to be) b) their clothes are now meant for 14 year olds with 21 inch waists c)all of the above. Luckily, this little guy fit.

Madewell FAIL

I just don't understand why there isn't a Madewell in San Francisco. Don't get me wrong; my wallet is thrilled. But it just seems like every single look is screaming SF to me. It's also clearly screaming "buy me, Dara," so it's probably all for the best. But what gives??

Steven Alan Spring/Summer 2010

Steven Alan Spring 2010 from Steven Alan on Vimeo.

Between this and the lovely Toast film and a host of others, it seems as though 2 years precisely after we first debuted our Enchanted vids, the fashionista short films are rollllllling in. Not that we started a trend; I'm fairly certain HT and I aren't on Steven Alan's radar; but synchronicity is uncanny.
On that note, the above Steven Alan short is beautiful.

However......

REALLY, Opening Ceremony? This shoe, which I specifically pointed out back when they first appeared, is now on sale and the only size left is MY SIZE? Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!!

When Where the Wild Things Are collaborations go horribly awry.

So...but like....I mean.......

Penny for your thoughts

So....it's wrong to buy 2 of the same dress in different prints, particularly when you're a poor graduate student, right?
Here's the situation:
Bought this dress yesterday; my first purchase in SF (of course it was at Urban Outfitters...whatever, I don't want to talk about it). It fits great; it's the perfect fall dress. However, they only had this pattern. So when I, like the schmuck I am, went to the website today and saw these other two patterns, I started to feel like I needed another one. It's not every day you find a perfect, easy, casual dress!

So, in a world where it wouldn't be totally wrong and silly to do this, which pattern should I get? I'm leaning towards the blue floral, but the green's pretty great, too.

Where the Wild Things Are pop-up store

I was looking at my friend Megan's always inspiring Flickr page when I came across photos of the "Where the Wild Things Are" pop-up store at Space 1520 in Hollywood.

(Megan Curran)

I had to know more, so I dug around the Kitsune Noir blog and found even more crazy awesome pics!

Crazy stuff. I can only hope it will still be standing when I make my first visit back Columbus Day weekend....but they always have amazing stuff over there. DEFINITELY check it out if you can! Kitsune Noir side note; I love this Jack Spade tote they have posted up there. LOVE.

Kind of Awesome

I'm wondering if I could pull this off, because I may just be the happiest lady ever wearing one of these Cupcake BEANIES once temps cool off around here. Yeah, I'll be the girl w/ the sprinkles and cherry on top... of my head!

Backpackin'

Today, as I strolled from my house to my boss's (which is about the distance I hope to live from public transport in San Francisco) with my messenger-style Apple-store-issued computer bag slung across my body, I realized I'm going to need to find a bag that helps me out a bit on the equilibrium front - and that is maybe a little better-looking. This brings me to a whole new sector of back-to-school fever that I really hadn't considered: What kind of backpack should I get??
In this corner, we have a bag from the new Jansport Heritage Collection (thanks, miel et cannelle).

Very minimal and vintage-inspired; and really, who can argue with Jansport?
In THIS corner, we have the ever-present Fjallraven backpack (thank YOU, for me, for you and creatures of comfort!).

Also clean and vintagey; though how I would ever decide between putty, graphite, and forest green as a color is beyond me.
So perhaps we ought to turn to Etsy.

This little lovely (here) is a mere $40; though I'm not sure how well the vintage canvas would stand up to inclement San Franciscan weather.
Finally, we've got your Duluth Pack daypack (I already use the standard shell bag as a daily purse).

They have a backpack that's specifically designed for laptops, too, but I don't know that I can swing $155 right now.

So...what say you, friends? Opinions? Suggestions? I open this highly important topic for discussion.

Enchanted Babies: 100% Organic!

We are happy to announce that Enchanted Royals now carries all organic cotton baby onesies! The colors are much more rich and the fabric is oh so soft. The Princess Cupcake onesie now comes in ultra-violet, and the Hamburger Onesie comes in natural, from the 100% organic baby line at American Apparel. Due to the change over, we can no longer offer the Princess Cupcake onesie in pink... But fear not, we're considering replacing that with the pomegranate colored organic option, which is a rich raspberry. And we do have a few sizes left in pink, so if you're a fan, hurry before they all run out!

Also, a new baby onesie design (inspired by some of our other products) is soon to be revealed that is both unisex and uber-adorable! Stay tuned for more details and when they'll be available on the web-store :)

Vena Cava for GAP

Tried this on today.

Didn't quite fit right and also I can't afford it, but I know I'm going to see it on others and covet it. Ah, GAP. Never would have pegged you as a temptress.

lookbook.new

I have to say, generally I feel tired of, or perhaps overwhelmed by, websites like Lookbook or Chictopia that serve as forums for girls to post their daily outfits. The idea is fun, but I just don't have the patience. Nancy Z in China is awesome, however. She's a 23-year-old illustrator and she does an illustration of each look she posts. It made me want to look at every one!

going off the deep end

So...not to be a whiny shopper- and let's just preface this by acknowledging that I neither need nor can afford yet another pair of shoes- but Lucky Magazine this month offered this great deal on the below Dolce Vita shoes:

Except in the magazine, where it's cobalt blue, it is instead a sort of hammered gunmetal. Which, to me, way better. But they're nowhere to be found! What gives, Dolce V? Where be the gunmetal?
End transmission on completely unnecessary procrastinatory rant. Have a relaxing weekend! We have a huuuuuuge one ahead of us, involving tarot card readings, seeing the incomparable Neko Case, going to a screening in the Hollywood Forever cemetary of "Funny Girl," and a Sunday activity which I will not yet divulge but will mark the start of some very awesome new Enchanted Royals developments! Stay tuned.....

One-piece what

There was a time you wouldn't catch me dead in a bikini. It was high school, I was 20 pounds heavier, and I just wasn't having it. One-pieces (often of the Speedo variety until Calvin Klein came along circa 1997 with some spaghetti straps) paired with board shorts abounded. It wasn't until the summer after freshman year of college, weight shorn, that I was able to coax myself into anything that allowed my stomach to see the light of day. And for years now, bikinis have been my status quo. But as they say; the times, they are a-changin'. Inspired in part by Kate's foray into amazing vintage-style one-piece swimsuits, and also Haley's penchant for integrating the one-piece into even non-beach life events, (see below; yes, that is the world's most amazing floral one-piece underneath that skirt)....

...I decided to make my own attempt at one-piece greatness once more.

Just ordered these off JCrew.com (pssst order online by midnight tonight, plug in the "extra20" promo code, and get an extra 20% off sale items); I'll let you know the verdict!

Think PINK!

When you shop for summer clothes... think PINK! I'm obsessed with ebay, and floral summer dresses right now. So naturally, when I found this Tracy Feith® For Target dress was sold out at all nearby Target stores as well as online, I took to the trusty ebay search engine to find what I was looking for (at a slightly steeper price, no doubt). TOTALLY worth it.

p.s. The above scene from the classic film, FUNNY FACE, is brilliant (I think Enchanted Royals should have an office with multi-colored doors one day...) This film is entirely responsible for my love of fashion, and all things PINK!

On that note....

Recently, while I was assisting on a shoot dressing Karen O, we were able to snatch up some Brian Lichtenberg pieces at the last minute (he is a huge fan of hers, and actually drove the pieces to our office for us himself that morning- an unprecedented move!) Unpacking the large wooden horn headpiece was fairly mindboggling, to say nothing of the ultra high heels covered in floor length human hair, Lhasa Apsos style. The skirt with the head on it, which my boss tenderly called "our pet" for the rest of the job, was my favorite. (I took a picture of it with my cameraphone and sent it to Chris with the caption, "This is a SKIRT!!!") There's something so exciting about clothes that don't take themselves remotely seriously, that were created purely to jumpstart your imagination. But most of all, these pieces pumped me up in a serious way for this:

Much fun.

The better to eat you with, my dear.....

Steven Alan Outpost

Today, on my way to Alcove, I stopped into the Steven Alan Outpost. I had passed it for the first time a few days before, and was shocked and probably a little too excited, but it was closed at the time. Not so today.

I walked into the above scene, the awesomeness of which was magnified by the hilarious and charming two guys working there. I tried on basically everything in the tiny store that was in my size (I mean...it's a store. Where every piece by Steven Alan is on sale.), and finally settled upon this:

They are having a sample sale June 4th to 7th, so if you live near to Los Feliz or will happen to be in the area, I highly recommend. Say hi to the guys.
