Don't give him the stick

Mine was a beautiful weekend of camping in Big Bear, filled with treacherous hiking, (watching others) jump off giant rocks, alpine sliding, making omelets in a bag, and general communing with nature (though my GPS-induced solo off-roading adventure into profound lost-ness on the way to the campsite definitely humbled me to the powerful ominousness that nature does possess). I hope you all have the opportunity to do the same this fine summer. It's going to be a great one, I can tell.

Friday!

Haley and I are embarking on separate wilderness getaways this weekend; me on my first camping trip of the season, and she to her always overwhelmingly beautiful home near Aspen. Have a great weekend! In the meantime, two awesome things:

Sniffle Co. wooden brooches and Yellowgoat jewelry, found via Daydream Lily

And one hilarious thing:

(Thanks, Brian.)

Le Sens Propre

Lord knows I've had the Adobe Creative Suite on the brain lately, as most every waking moment has been spent learning these programs, but I wasn't quite looking at it like this....or WAS I?

For that matter.....

Why don't they make things like this anymore??

How Crayons are Made

During day 2 of shooting the music video yesterday, some of our set dressing reminded our director of photography, Donnie, of the below piece from Sesame Street:

a)These are exactly the type of ideas we all hope to inspire!
b)Do you viscerally remember this particular piece, as we all did when we watched it on his Iphone?

Vena Cava for GAP

Tried this on today.

Didn't quite fit right and also I can't afford it, but I know I'm going to see it on others and covet it. Ah, GAP. Never would have pegged you as a temptress.

Vision Mission

We promised we'd let you in on what new Enchanted Royals fun we've been cooking up...so here's a sneak peek. This Sunday was day one of shooting our new music video promo for our shoes, totes, and tees (find them here). It's going to be exciting and just as much fun as our last three! Some new characters will be introduced; one in particular that we're SO jazzed about...but all in due time!
Here's a look into day 1:

We will keep you posted with updates galore!

lookbook.new

I have to say, generally I feel tired of, or perhaps overwhelmed by, websites like Lookbook or Chictopia that serve as forums for girls to post their daily outfits. The idea is fun, but I just don't have the patience. Nancy Z in China is awesome, however. She's a 23-year-old illustrator and she does an illustration of each look she posts. It made me want to look at every one!

Funny Face

Saturday night we three ladies went to our first Hollywood Forever cemetery screening of the season....Funny Face. We braved the enthusiastic snoggers in line to have a lovely evening of cherries, red wine, and Audrey!

going off the deep end

So...not to be a whiny shopper- and let's just preface this by acknowledging that I neither need nor can afford yet another pair of shoes- but Lucky Magazine this month offered this great deal on the below Dolce Vita shoes:

Except in the magazine, where it's cobalt blue, it is instead a sort of hammered gunmetal. Which, to me, way better. But they're nowhere to be found! What gives, Dolce V? Where be the gunmetal?
End transmission on completely unnecessary procrastinatory rant. Have a relaxing weekend! We have a huuuuuuge one ahead of us, involving tarot card readings, seeing the incomparable Neko Case, going to a screening in the Hollywood Forever cemetary of "Funny Girl," and a Sunday activity which I will not yet divulge but will mark the start of some very awesome new Enchanted Royals developments! Stay tuned.....

Marchin' To The Beat of Her Own Drum...

Dancing Critters from Haley Thompson on Vimeo.

Our childhood was well documented, thanks to my father and his trusty 8mm camera. Over the years, it has been a grueling process to transfer all of our dying VHS tapes into digital files, in an attempt to salvage what little picture/sound quality is left.

Of all the memories he captured, the above clip is my all time favorite, as my little sister steals the show with her precious moves.  No inhibitions whatsoever, she truly marches to the beat of her own drum, which is something I have always admired about her.  Now that my baby sis is all growed up, she continues to inspire with her adventurous spirit and an infectious joie de vivre.
Love you Mowchie : )

"We're going to eat gas."

Last night, Chris and I were trying to decide which of my movies to watch (because Netflix totally dropped the ball and lost my most recent movie in the mail), and after acknowledging that I ceased to find buying movies necessary after the year 2000 (it appears as though Memento was my most recent purchase), we settled on Reality Bites, which I consider to be a paragon of mid-90's filmmaking. I've seen it maybe 70 times; he's seen it never. After overcoming the deep and intense frustration of having the DVD skip and eventually roll over and die just as the "In Your Face TV" version of Lelaina's documentary is about to be screened (my disc is a goner, I'm afraid), it sank in that Winona's looking pretty adorable in this movie. It became ever clearer how much 90's fashion is purveying our present-day lives; particularly when Chris saw the black trouser/white blouse outfit below and responded, "What's with the ugly pants?" (I totally covet that outfit.) There's some serious ugliness in there too (each generation has its own humiliating fashion crosses to bear), but overall, cuteness prevails, no?
